Prosthodontics

When an individual is missing teeth, he or she may feel that the issue is purely cosmetic, and while they’ve lost confidence in their smile, they don’t worry about tooth loss beyond that. However, missing even a single tooth can greatly affect the integrity of the mouth because the open space can cause teeth to migrate. Further, empty spaces can cause jawbone deterioration which can lead to additional loss.

If you’re exploring your restorative options, prosthodontics might be the right treatment for you.

What is Prosthodontics?

Prosthodontics refers to a fully customized treatment plan designed to restore the appearance and function of the mouth. This dental process focuses on restoring the structure of the face, replacing missing teeth, improving oral functions, and enhancing the appearance of an individual’s smile.

Who is Prosthodontics for?

Prosthodontics is an in-depth treatment and as such, it’s designed to correct an array of oral health issues. These issues include:

  • Missing Teeth
  • Collapsed Facial Structure
  • Jawbone Deterioration
  • Advanced Periodontal Disease
  • Cracked or Broken Teeth
  • Loose Teeth
  • Poorly-Fitting Dentures
  • Difficulty Biting, Chewing, and Eating

Prosthodontics will not only restore the appearance of your oral structures, but it’s also capable of restoring the function of your mouth. This restoration type allows for more natural eating, drinking, and speaking.

If you have multiple missing teeth, you should consider this procedure. Prosthodontics is an ideal solution, because it restores your mouth by replacing the missing teeth, building up the bite, bringing back the height to the teeth and face, and rejuvenating your smile.

What are the steps in Prosthodontics?

While replacing teeth and restoring the appearance and function of your smile with prosthodontics is complex, our twenty years experience has allowed us to streamline the process, making it an easy and smooth process for you.

Placement and Preparation Appointment – If you are having implants to replace your missing teeth, they would be placed at this appointment. On the same day, the doctor would rebuild any natural teeth that need to be restored, and create custom temporary teeth, so when you leave you have a new smile! You will wear the temporary while the implants heal, trying out your new smile and bite for the next few months.  When you return to our office, an impression is made of the implants and the remaining natural teeth.
